Robert Kent began his aikido training in Kyoto, Japan, in 1984, directly after majoring in both Religion and Philosophy at Williams College. While attending classes at several aikido schools, he studied primarily under Tomita Seiji, 7th Dan, and was awarded his Sho-dan in 1987.
Rob trained at Musubi Dojo in Claremont, CA under Susan Perry Sensei and Ron Rubin Sensei in 1990-1991. During this period, he was working towards an MA in Ethics. He focused his graduate work on the need to integrate the physical, mental, and spiritual elements of our existence into a coherent whole.
Rob joined Aikido West in 1991. In 1992, he began assisting with the Youth Program, then run by Molly and Jeramy Hale. He inherited leadership of the Youth Program in 2001.
He has been working with children and teenagers for more than twenty years, and returns each summer to a sports camp in upstate Pennsylvania where he teaches aikido, tennis, and juggling. He was awarded the rank of San Dan in 2002 by Frank Doran Sensei.
